Our way of preserving the most spectacular forests in the world is to offer the most delicious products these forests have to give. To give back, we plant or preserve one tree for every product sold.
—Philipp Kauffmann, 2014, Original Beans Founder
Any wise management must use the forest in such a way that generations to come can enjoy as much benefit from it as the present generation has.
—G.L. Hartig, 1791, Eminent forestry scientist and forefather of Philipp Kauffmann
Since 2008, Original Beans has combined its dual passion for chocolate making and conservation, raising the bar in both areas. We travel into the most remote rainforests in the world – in pursuit of the rarest cacao beans – to bring foodies, environmentally conscious consumers and leading chefs pure, additive-free chocolate. Chocolate that replenishes the biodiverse forests in the origins instead of harming them.
True to our One Bar : One Tree approach, we plant a seedling for every chocolate bar sold – thereby protecting the local flora and fauna, benefitting cacao farmer families, and ensuring heritage cacao trees for future generations. To date, Original Beans has planted and preserved over 1,000,000 trees in the cacao origins.
Thanks to these continuous reforestation efforts, as well as our energy-efficient production, green logistics and 100% bio-compostable packaging, Original Beans chocolates are CO²-positive within their own supply chain. This means that with every bar of Original Beans chocolate you enjoy, you offset the environmental impact of your consumption – and even change the world’s climate for the better.
Not only are Original Beans chocolates good to the earth, they are also good to eat – being served in the world’s best restaurants and repeatedly honoured with the most prestigious chocolate awards.
We are delighted that many chocolate lovers around the world share our passion for luxurious chocolate and rigorous sustainability. Together, we are changing the world – bite by bite.
