Rare I Pure I Organic I Awarded I Fair+ I Climate+ I Zero Waste I One Bar : One Tree
In nature, waste equals food. Waste of one creature becomes food for another - and so the cycle continues. 32% of all plastic packaging leaks into nature. If this continues, in 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish. We know that plastic has filtered in the water we drink every day. There is only one solution: eliminate plastic.
Garden composting is a good way to recycle Original Beans packaging. You can also recycle it as paper. The shiny, ultra-thin aluminum layer (0,6 nanometer) we have applied to keep the chocolates in perfect condition does not interfere with bio-compostability. Aluminum is earth's most common metal, also in soils.
PLASTIC-FREE SINCE 2012
To lead as a regenerative business, in 2012 our product team poured their passion and know-how into launching the first garden-compostable packaging in the chocolate industry. Made entirely from wood fibres it is natural, renewable and certified garden-compostable by TÜV Austria.
ANOTHER WORLD-FIRST COMPOSTABLE FOR 2020
While the world was standing up against plastic pollution in 2018, our product team - full of beans - was at it again. Now we are able to offer you the first-ever regenerative couverture pack for the provision of chocolates to the best and most sustainable restaurants and hotels worldwide. Made from wood fibres, it is natural, renewable and compostable.
WHAT MAKES A PIONEER PACKAGING?
HOW DID WE DO IT?
To do something that hasn’t been done before you need vision, skills, and stamina among the right kind of people. Sixteen months of development in the foil factory and in the chocolate manufacture asked for a tight team effort between experts from different organizations. Led by one of Europe’s best eco-packaging engineers, Arie Gelein, we struggled hard to make a perfect seal. Only days before our project deadline did we finally pull it off.
NEARLY 100% BETTER THAN THE REST
According to independent lab tests and analysis our retail packs, the garden-compostable packaging we use is more than 80% better for nature and people than any currently available packaging. It is made from wood rather than plastic or aluminum or a combination of both. We apply aluminum to safeguard optimum product quality, but have reduced alu by a factor 10000 compared to conventional foils.
