Overcoming centuries of oppression, the indigenous Zoque and Tzotzil tribes with whom we make this chocolate have stayed true to their spirited traditions in the Selva Zoque, the largest rainforest in Mexico. A favourite food of the Selva’s spider monkeys, cacao was cultivated by the ancient Zoque 4000 years ago. They gave it its name “kakaw” and its god: a spider monkey.View Origin
