Among classic Trinitario cacao from the Udzungwa region, scientists have also identified cacao trees that are a hybrid between Ecuadorian Nacional and Trinitario from Venezuela. There are few origins worldwide where this cacao has been found to date.

Give Udzungwa's Playful Elephants Safe Passage
Elephants roam playfully in the Udzungwa National Park woods. Only when elephants trample fields and steal crops conflict breaks open. But what can farmers do? Conservationists found a genius ‘ answer: intimidate them with an insect the size of a paper clip. Elephants are terrified of bees. And for good reason: When they disturb a beehive, they often walk away with stings in their sensitive trunks and ears. Setting up beehives in a fence line keeps elephants
on safe distance.
